Monday 24th January – Awake

College’s Crossing after the floods

Morning

I woke up bright and early, the sun pouring through my window, where the curtains used to be in the old days, and drove to work.

Tuesday 25th January – Pregnant

Day

Pretty flowersI went to work. Today I got told that my sister is pregnant, that Bronwen’s contract had been extended—most likely meaning that our tentative trip overseas would be postponed—and that I could not continue my lease on my property and would need to move out as soon as possible. My younger sister is pregnant. That is huge. It reminds me sharply that Dad and Mum aren’t here to see and help, and that my own life is currently in chaos—I’m uncertain what to do next, very recently was contemplating moving overseas, and am now tentatively planning to go for a holiday overseas instead, which is now probably postponed, and don’t have anywhere to live, and am unsure whether I should be trying to again rent a cheap property then sub-let it, in order to keep my living expenses down, or whether I should be doing what everyone else seems to be doing, and spending the extra money to have a “nicer” place to myself, or living with my girlfriend, or… who knows—lots to think about.

Night

Bronwen and I drove to Aldi, to buy things which weren’t available until Thursday, but due to the simple unidirectional realm in which we travel, seemingly always forwards, we weren’t able to. We instead bought ice cream, and walked down to a new (though Bronwen says it’s not that new) Chinese food place on Caxton Street, for dinner. I then slept, quite probably for the last time, in my place, on my trusty airbed.

Wednesday 26th January – Australia Day & I Move

Morning

College’s Crossing after the floodsI slept in a little, pretending to ignore the fierce shaft of sunlight rudely penetrating the curtain-less windows, then drove up to Bronwen’s parents’ place, got Bronwen, and went and had a look at an Australia Day Flood Relief party (which really wasn’t pumping), before driving out to College’s Crossing in a laughable attempt to go for a swim. It turns out the place is a moonscape—all life has ceased, and there’s police and guards preventing anyone from having any fun, or injuries I suppose.

Afternoon

After our abortive attempt to go have a picnic and swim at College’s Crossing, Bronwen and I drove on to Ipswich and had our picnic lunch (tacos, except in burritos, seeing as you asked) at Queen’s Park.

Evening

After driving back from Ipswich, Bronwen and I packed up some stuff from my place andMy server in its new home with its new vacuum cleaner friend took it around to Bronwen’s place—the start of my final move out of home. After this we had a lovely dinner at Halim’s Indian Taj—which has opened again after the flooding—and walked Bronwen’s bike back up to her parents’, then I collected some more things from my place, drove out to Bronwen’s place, set up some computer gear, and went to bed.

Thursday 27th January – Traffic Congestion

Day

After getting very little sleep due to getting to bed not very long before 4 AM, it took over forty minutes to get to work—though, looking on the bright side, I did not break any bones.

Friday 28th January – No Helicopter

Day

I dropped Bronwen in the city on my way to work. It took 52 minutes to get to work this morning. I’m going to need a new job, a new place to stay, or a helicopter.

Evening

I drove back to my (old) place, met Bronwen there, and a little while later, Dirk—who had come to collect Stella’s keyboard.

Night

Bronwen and I had a very satisfying lasagne from Kookaburra Café, and went for a drive up Mount Coot-Tha, before I headed southside to go to bed.

Saturday 29th January – Dirty Washing Baskets

Morning

I drove to my (old) place, packed Maz’s fans and microwave, and drove to Maz’s aunt’s, where Maz is currently staying. We drove to Indooroopilly, had lunch (cheap nachos in my case) and bought dirty washing baskets.

Afternoon

I drove Maz back to his aunt’s and myself back to my (old) place, where I packed most of the remaining things into the car Bronwen with some flowersand drove them over to Bronwen’s. Bronwen’s Dad and Mum were at Bronwen’s, along with Nathan, having a cleaning binge, so I did some gardening.

Night

Bronwen and I drove northside, Bronwen to her parents’, me to Maz’s, then back to get Bronwen, then to Halim’s, where we had a lovely vegetable biryani. Bronwen and I then stayed up late testing HDMI leads, watching various things on TV, and trying to configure surround sound.

Sunday 30th January – Moving

Morning

I awoke, having successfully escaped from my sleep again, and Bronwen and I drove over to my place, via the bakery and IGA for my breakfast—just like old times.

Afternoon

Some of my things waiting to be “unpacked”Bronwen and I packed up a few things from my place, Bronwen’s Dad drove over and picked up the larger ones, and Bronwen and her Dad drove them off to Bronwen’s place. I stayed behind packing up and cleaning the last remaining things, packing them into my car and heading for a kebab on the way back to Bronwen’s—now, while it doesn’t yet feel so, also my place I suppose.

Evening

After doing a lot of washing, unpacking, and general sorting and cleaning, I am having a little relax… and I believe I have moved everything out of my old place, into my new place. My old place is effectively no more. I’m not too sure what to make of that… is it a good thing, to be moving on? Is it bad that my close, cheap place that I really quite liked is no more? I suppose time will tell.

Night

Bronwen and I tried to go to the vegetarian place near here for dinner, but it isn’t open Sundays, so we went to Thai Orchid instead—which was really yummy, the best stir fry in peanut sauce I’ve eaten.
