Orienteering
Bronwen and I drove over to Toohey Forest, where Bronwen went orienteering. We hadn’t prebooked as one was supposed to and I wasn’t sure I wanted to go anyway, so when we got there and they only had one spare map for Bronwen, I decided not to go and instead went home and configured my new camera.
Sexy Sunday Cabaret
After Bronwen got back from orienteering we drove down to Mo’s Desert Clubhouse in Burleigh Heads and had a chat to Carissa—who was running around setting things up for her “Sexy Sunday Cabaret” event—a fundraiser for her upcoming Modifyre camp, the “Bubblearium”. We continued on to the beach intending to go for a swim/surf, but by the time we’d walked to Woolworths and bought and eaten some chips there wasn’t time, so we drove back to Mo’s Desert Clubhouse.
This was the first event photography I’d attempted with my new camera—which, combined with it often being quite dimly lit, very coloured, and there not being any space beside or in front of the stage where I could hide without getting in everyone’s way—made it quite challenging.
I’ve known some of the performers for a while, and seen them do small ad-hoc performances before, but never actually seen a proper organised performance from any of them, so it was quite interesting to see.
After the performances there were some DJs and much dancing and partying, until we were finally kicked out around 11:30 PM—an hour and a half after the intended close. Many people apparently went to an afterparty, but Bronwen and I—being quite boring people—drove home and went to bed.
